How to Maintain and Care for Your Custom BBQ Pit

The custom BBQ pits we create at Lone Star Grillz are built to last. If you care for them correctly, they can become investments that will be with your family, business, or competitive team for decades.

But if you want them to give you their very best, you need to make sure you're caring for them properly.

Fortunately, BBQ pit maintenance isn't terribly hard. It requires a little forethought, a little planning, and a little time, nothing more. It will consist of three important steps: seasoning, cleaning, and inspecting.

Seasoning the Grill

Every grill needs a non-stick layer that protects it from debris and rust. The process of seasoning a grill also ensures your food remains safe and tasty to eat. Don't skip this vital step. Make a note on your calendar to get it done once every quarter, or four times a year.

Follow these steps.

  1. Heat grill to 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

  2. Remove grates.

  3. Coat grates with a non-stick food grade salt free cooking spray.

  4. Return grates to grill.

  5. Spray the interior of the grill with the cooking spray.

  6. Allow grill to cook for 45 more minutes.

  7. Remove grills and spray again.

  8. Allow the BBQ grill to cool.

The process of seasoning works the same for any smoker or combination BBQ pit or smoker from Lone Star Grillz.

Cleaning the Grill

You should clean your grill every time you use it. You don't need soap or water. You need to use a non-wired, BBQ cleaning brush to scrape off the grill. You can use a little warm water if you have to.

You shouldn't have to pressure wash your grill. At most, you may need to scrape some build up away with the back side of your brush.

If you have a pellet grill, you will eventually need to clean out the ashes with a vacuum or a brush or your food will start to acquire an unpleasant taste.

Inspecting the Grill

A grill is like any piece of equipment. Parts can wear out and the entire system can break down. Regular inspections can reassure you that all parts of your grill are in good working order.

If they're not, then you can schedule a repair or order a replacement part as soon as you notice a problem, restoring your grill to perfect working order so it can give you many more years of service.

Inspect the grill any time it's sat idle for a long period of time, especially after the winter season.
