Lone Star Grillz “Teriyaki Onion Burger”

Remember to always wash your hands prior to preparing. Use food grade gloves where appropriate to prevent contamination.

Recipe and Ingredients:

- ½ pound fresh (never frozen) 80/20 Ground Beef/Chuck
- Sesame Seed Bun (or your favorite bun)
- 1 medium Yellow Onion (Sliced)
- 2 tablespoons Olive Oil
- 2 or 3 Pineapple Rings (slices)
- White American Cheese (or your favorite cheese)
- Teriyaki Marinade: 3 tablespoons Soy Sauce, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce, 1 teaspoon Lemon Juice, ½ teaspoon of your favorite Steak Sauce, 1 teaspoon minced Garlic, 1 teaspoon minced Ginger, 1 teaspoon brown sugar, 1 teaspoon Black pepper. (MIX TOGETHER WELL and reserve 3 teaspoons in a separate container)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Make Teriyaki Marinade, reserve 3 teaspoons in a separate container and set aside.

  2. Slice 1 medium sized yellow onion and place into a small, well-oiled skillet. Add 2 tablespoons of Olive Oil and the Teriyaki Marinade, mix well to coat everything completely.

  3. Get the skillet with onions onto your smoker at 275 degrees Fahrenheit at least 45 minutes before you place your burger on the smoker. Be sure to stir every 15 minutes or so.

  4. Make the Burger by using a 4.5-inch baking ring and parchment paper.  Use fresh 80/20 Ground Beef and tear into smaller portions, then place into ring and press gently (just enough for it to take shape) until the burger is fully formed (see video).

  5. Use a toothpick to poke holes in the burger from the top but DO NOT poke all the way through to the bottom, only about halfway through.

  6. Spoon the 3 teaspoons of reserved marinade onto the top of the burger and allow it to sit and soak that marinade up for around 30 minutes.

  7. Remove ring from burger gently, pat down burger edges around the top.

  8. Place Burger on cooker at 275 degrees Fahrenheit.

  9. Add Pineapple rings to the top of the onions in the skillet.

  10. Allow the burger to cook until it’s within a couple degrees of your final finishing temperature.  We cooked ours to medium but cook yours to your liking.

  11. Once your burger is within a couple degrees of your final finishing temperature (we were at 135 degrees Fahrenheit for medium), add cheese to the top of the burger and place the bun on the cooker to get a quick toast.

  12. Once the cheese melts, build your burger by placing the burger patty directly from the cooker to the bottom bun, then the pineapple slices and onions on top.

  13. Crown your burger with the top bun, ENJOY!
